11th Annual Carolina Chocolate Festival
Celebrating Charity and Chocolate for Two Months !!
The Chocolate Festival was created by the late John Green, who envisioned non-profit groups working together, hand-in-hand, to organize an event as partners, and in turn reap the benefits. Proceeds from the 2013 Festival will support Carteret County Domestic Violence, Carteret County 4H, White Oak Church Youth Ministries, the Beaufort Woman’s Club, Beaufort Sister Cities, Carteret General Hospital Volunteers, and Second Blessings Community Outreach Ministry. During the last ten years over $350,000 has been given to designated charities. “Thanks to the chocolate lovers who attend our Festival and other events, we are able to support the Carteret County charities who work hard all year long to help us present a quality event.” commented Judy Hailey, Executive Director
The “Main” Chocolate Festival features chocolatier vendors from North Carolina and as far away as Tennessee and Virginia, the festival provides lovers of mankind’s best-loved dessert – chocolate! From chocolate diamonds and pearls, chocolate cakes and tortes to chocolate bars, truffles, fudge and sugar free chocolates, chocolate popcorn and ice cream, and even chocolate cookbooks and chocolate wine- the event offers more than a sampling of everything chocolate. Other festival activities include the “Chocolate Pudding Contest” that goes on continually throughout the event, a “Cake Walk” showcasing the Chocolate Cupcakes and Cakes made available for purchase to all. The festival is scheduled from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2nd and from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.3rd at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City. Tickets are $8.00 for Adults, $2.00 for kids 5-12; children under 5 are admitted free. Active Duty Military personnel will be given free admission on Sunday with military I.D.
As the 11th Annual Carolina Chocolate Festival grows, chocolate will be celebrated for two months instead of two days! “Why just celebrate chocolate for two days? There is so much too celebrate, so we’ve added Chocolate events in January and February!” exclaimed Marlene Green, who’s husband started this event 11 years ago in Morehead City, North Carolina at the Crystal Coast Civic Center.
New for 2013 there will be, several events celebrated in January to precede the Festival on February 2-3. The new addition of events are MexiCococo on January 19, Choco Sunday Brunch on January 27 along with a Chocolate 5k Run in the early morning hours on February 2 to open the Festival !
The Carolina Chocolate Festival will be providing a $1000 scholarship to a deserving high school senior in Carteret County with plans to attend the Carteret Community College. The scholarship is based on financial, academic need. The winner will be announced on Saturday, February 2nd during the Festival.
